Syracuse’s men’s and women’s squads began postseason competition in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Friday. The Orange had a very strong showing as the men placed second in the race, while the women finished fourth.

In the men’s 8k, the Orange tallied 65 points. North Carolina was the only school to outpace them with 49 points. Virginia (77 points), Notre Dame (86 points) and Florida State (117 points) rounded out the top five.

Syracuse saw three of its runners finish in the top 10, closing the race with a team time of 1:57:36 with an average of 23:31. Paul O’Donnell placed second overall with a time of 23:08.2. Perry Mackinnon finished fifth overall with a time of 23:15.2. Sam Lawler (23:28.9) finished 10th while his brother, Nathan Lawler, (23:48.4) finished 22nd. Assaf Harari (23:55.7) rounded out the top five for SU, placing 26th in the ACC. North Carolina’s Parker Wolfe won the ACC Championship with a time of 23:03.1.

In the women’s 6K, Syracuse finished fourth with a large gap between themselves and the top three schools. The Orange recorded 167 points. NC State ran away with the race, scoring 37 points in its victory. Notre Dame tallied 80 points to finish in second with Virginia right behind them with 82 points. North Carolina’s 172 points earned it fifth place.

SU recorded a team time of 1:43:50 and an average of 20:46. Savannah Roark was the only Syracuse women’s runner to finish inside the top 25, placing ninth overall with a time of 20:01.8. Rylie Lusk (20:43.6) finished 30th in the race and second for Syracuse. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (20:50.8) finished 38th while Madison Neuner (21:01.5) placed 48th. Nobody else for Syracuse placed within the top 50. NC State junior Katelyn Tuohy won the women’s 6K with a time of 19:22.8.
