Halloween is finally here and there is plenty to do in and around Syracuse. If you have a spare minute, Pulp has the details on a real-life Diagon Alley, two-day Halloween concert, costume contests and more. Click on the headings or orange text to read more.

 

Diagon Alley

Attention all Harry Potter fans: Press Bay Alley in Ithaca, New York, will will transform into Diagon Alley this Halloween. While it will not be building facades, businesses and volunteers will create the spirit of Harry Potter’s most famous street through themed events and decorations, according to the Facebook event. Participants are encouraged to come in costume to participate in the costume contest. They can even pick their own house upon arriving. They will then compete in various contests, like Wizard Chess and Quidditch Reenactments. There will also be food trucks present and wizard-themed trinkets for sale. If you’re a true Potter fan, the hour drive to Ithaca might be worth the time.

 

Fright Nights at the Fair

This Friday, Orange After Dark is bringing students to Fright Nights at the Fair for only $3 per student. Fright Nights at the Fair is the annual haunted attraction at the New York State Fairgrounds and has five separate haunted houses, including “Flying Monkeys of grozz” and “Clown Prison.” There are an abundance of spooky haunts in Syracuse — check them all out here — but it isn’t going to get much more affordable than this. Plus, transportation is included with buses leaving Schine Student Center and Goldstein Student Center at 10:30 p.m.

 

Disco Biscuits

Electronica-jam band Disco Biscuits are performing in Syracuse two nights in a row this weekend for their annual Halloween extravaganza. On Friday, they will be at The F-Shed at the Market with the show starting at 7 p.m. You can find them at The Oncenter on Saturday, however tickets for this appearance are already sold out. According to the concert promoter’s website, Disco Biscuits is known for innovating the “transfusion” movement and has a rock edge. If you’re looking to enjoy some tunes this weekend, definitely check these guys out.

 

 

Pet costume contest

Beware: This event may cause cuteness overload. On Halloween morning, make the drive to Ted and Amy’s annual Pet Costume Contest. Over 100 dogs are expected to participate in the contest, according to syracuse.com. If you’re a pet owner that wants to show off their pet’s style, registration begins at 9 a.m. and judging takes place between 10 a.m. and noon. The event takes place at Billy Whittaker’s Cars and Trux and every attendee will be able to register for a $400 Pabst Blue Ribbon Mini Fridge. It’s a half-hour drive, but give it a shot if you want to hug some adorable puppies before spending the rest of Halloween spooked.

 

 

Downtown Halloween parties

For the 21-and-up crowd, numerous downtown bars have big Halloween parties with drink and food specials. Empire Brewing Co. is hosting a “Black Magic Banquet” with “spooky drink specials” and a live DJ until 2 a.m, according to the Facebook event. The “Black Magic Banquet” will begin at 11 p.m. on Halloween night with no cover charge. Alto Cinco in Westcott is also having its second-annual Halloween bash. Events begin at 11 p.m. and include a live performance by funk band The Nasty Truth and a costume contest to be judged at midnight, according to the Facebook event. If you’re 18 through 20, World Lounge Martini Bar is having a College Night on Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
