1. SU Board of Trustees to discuss in November tentative future of Carrier Dome

The Syracuse University Board of Trustees will take a vote at its November meeting on the future of the Carrier Dome. Much of the work that is going on with the Campus Master Plan will go in front of the Board of Trustees and the university is “well teed up” for a decision this academic year.

2. 2 SU students killed in off-campus car accident

Two graduate students in the College of Engineering and Computer Science died in a car accident on East Seneca Turnpike about five miles away from the Syracuse University campus early Thursday morning. The graduate students, Chengye Hou and Yifan Tao, were both involved in the fatal car accident with another student, who was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

3. SU pushes for reauthorization of Federal Perkins Loan Program in 3rd quarter

Syracuse University officials “urged” the reauthorization of the Federal Perkins Loan Program, which provided low-interest federal student loans for undergraduate and graduate students with “exceptional financial need until it expired earlier this month. Additionally, the university reported $60,000 in total lobbying activity for the third quarter of 2015 and has lobbied for a total of $190,000 through three quarters, the same as last year.

4. SU alumnus, Vice President Joe Biden announces he will not run for president

Syracuse University alumnus and Vice President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he will not be running for president. The announcement, which took place in the Rose Garden of the White House, ends a three-month exploration period for Biden that began after the death of his son, Beau Biden, who was also an SU alumnus.

5. Student claims permanent disability after filing lawsuit against SU, local companies

A senior architecture major who sued Syracuse University after a 50-pound, 6-by-3-foot window pane fell on her head in Lyman Hall claims she is now permanently disabled due to the incident. Meishi Zhang filed a lawsuit against SU, Upstate Insulated Glass Inc. and the Hayner Hoyt Corporation in April and now says she suffers from post-concussion syndrome, short-term memory loss and vision impairment, among other injuries.
