Former Syracuse goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer announced on social media Monday she’s transferring to Northwestern. After spending three seasons at SU, Sweitzer will finish her college career as a graduate student with the Wildcats.
Sweitzer was the 2023 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Goalkeeper of the Year in her first year as a full-time starter, notching a 50.5% save percentage to lead the Orange to the Final Four. Last year, her save percentage regressed to 41.8%, but SU again reached the Final Four. Each year, Northwestern faced Boston College in the championship. The Wildcats won in 2023 but fell in 2024.
Molly Laliberty was Northwestern’s goalkeeper in both seasons. However, after her sixth collegiate season in 2024, she ran out of eligibility. Sweitzer, who will be a sixth-year in 2025, will step into her place.
Sweitzer began her career at USC, where she spent the first two years of her career. She didn’t play as a freshman in 2020 before appearing in just three games as a sophomore. Sweitzer then transferred to Syracuse ahead of the 2022 season, splitting time in goal with Kimber Hower. She then took over the starting role the ensuing season and never relinquished it.
As it stands, SU will likely turn to Daniella Guyette as its starting goalkeeper in 2025.
