Following Syracuse’s two-game series sweep over Robert Morris, SU forward Bryn Saarela earned Atlantic Hockey America Forward of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. The graduate student finished with four points in the Orange’s 4-1 win on Friday. The next day, Saarela continued to lead SU’s attack by adding three more points to lift SU to another 4-1 victory.
After she helped open the scoring with an assist on Tatum White’s goal in the first game, Saarela single-handedly willed the Orange to victory with three unanswered goals, including one on a power play and an empty netter, to clinch the first hat trick of her career. In the second game, Saarela again scored SU’s first goal and added a power play and short-handed goal to seal the series sweep for the Orange.
Since she transferred to Syracuse following her four-year career at Holy Cross, Saarela has consistently provided a spark for SU’s newly formed offensive corps. Now alone as the Orange’s top scorer, she continues to set the pace for a young team still trying to find their identity.
