The Carrier Dome may be empty over the next few months, but that doesn’t mean Syracuse sports fans can’t get their fix. Here’s where to make a pit stop from all of the hiking, biking and exploring during the upcoming summer months.
Baseball: Syracuse Chiefs
Location: 1 Tex Simone Drive, Syracuse
Season: April – September
About: The minor league team of Syracuse and Triple-A affiliate for the Washington Nationals season runs through September. They will play games all over central New York, as well as home games at NBT Bank Stadium.
After losing to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 6-5 in their season opener, the team is 18 – 16 so far. The team’s home stadium is reason enough to attend the games — this season’s deals include “Mangia Monday,” “Taco Tuesday” and “Winning Wednesday.”

Soccer: Syracuse FC
Location: Onondaga Community College, Syracuse
Season: May – June
About: After officially joining the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in 2017, Syracuse FC is no longer new, but most of their talent is. With only a few returning players, the team will play their home opener at Onondaga Community College’s Lazer Stadium against conference champions Erie Commodores FC, according to Kristen Klawitter, director of communications for SFC.
“This team is looking more cohesive than last year, already before the season begins. They’ve really just been practicing for about two weeks,” Klawitter said in response to feedback she’s heard of the this year’s team.
Klawitter also said the SFC coaches are excited about the prospect of competing in the NPSL playoffs. With free stadium parking and a competitive team, the SFC games are a great way to get to know the next sports team.
