UPDATED: Saturday, Dec. 9 at 12:47 p.m.

Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety and city police are investigating a report that a student was robbed by a man “in possession of a handgun” on Comstock Avenue at about 10 p.m. Friday night.

At about 11:45 p.m., DPS issued a second public safety notice about the incident, which was first reported at about 10 p.m. According to the notice, a student said a “dark colored 4-door sedan” pulled up alongside them on Comstock Avenue. A man in the car with a handgun, identified by police as 16 to 20 years old, demanded money from the student. The student handed over money, and the vehicle fled the scene north toward Main Campus, according to police.

As of 9 a.m. Saturday, a Syracuse Police Department spokesman said the investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been made in relation to the incident.

DPS first issued a public safety notice at about 10:30 p.m. in a campus-wide email, notifying the university community of the incident. The robbery occurred in the 900 block of Comstock Avenue, according to the notice.

Police advised students to “stay away from the area.” The 900 block is near the intersection of Comstock Avenue and Stratford Street, just outside the entrance of Mount Olympus.

Police are currently searching for the vehicle, according to the notice.
