Syracuse University student died Sunday, university announces
Justin Robinson, a senior in Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences, died Sunday, the university announced Monday.
Robinson, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, died unexpectedly in his hometown of Palmetto, Georgia, on Sunday, according to an email from Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz, senior vice president and dean of the Division of Student Affairs at SU.
Robinson was a member of the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble (BCCE), Juvenile Urban Multicultural Program Nation and the Multicultural Empowerment Network, according to the email.
“I join Chancellor Syverud and the entire Syracuse University community in extending our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him, during this difficult time,” Kantrowitz said in the email.
Kantrowitz added that the BCCE and Hendricks Chapel will work together to host a vigil in memory of Robinson.
Yasmin Florence, Robinson’s mother, created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her son’s burial and medical bills. On the page, Florence said her son only worked part-time so he did not have any insurance.
As of 11:20 p.m. on Monday, the GoFundMe page had had raised $6,474 of its $10,000 goal from 231 different people.
Shyrron Anthony, one of the contributors to Robinson’s GoFundMe page, left a comment with her contribution, saying that Robinson sounded like a “very precious, precious young man.”
“I wish I could do more, but here is something to help,” Anthony said in her comment. “I will pray for your strength.”
