Week in News: Biden at SU, abroad students safe after Paris attacks and more
1. Biden during speech at SU: “Have the gumption to stand up and speak out.”
Joe Biden was soft-spoken at times and passionate, nearly yelling, at others when talking about sexual assault in front of a packed Goldstein Auditorium on Thursday. He came to SU as part of the White House’s “It’s On Us” campaign.

2. SU Abroad students in Paris reported safe following terrorist attacks
All Syracuse University students studying abroad in Strasbourg and London who were visiting Paris are safe and accounted for following the shootings and bombings in Paris on Friday, which killed at least 120 people and injured more than 200.

3. SU students rally in solidarity with University of Missouri protesters
About 100 members of the Syracuse University community rallied near the Quad during Vice President Joe Biden’s speech at SU, before moving to the Schine Student Center once Biden was done.

4. Court records show Sadler Dining Hall cook blackmailed ex-girlfriend with oral sex video
Patrick E. Martin Jr., 32, of Syracuse, was arrested Thursday on the charges of coercion, unlawful surveillance and harassment, according to a Syracuse Police Department bulletin. Martin is still listed in the Syracuse University Directory as a “Second Cook.”

5. Former Syracuse University student arrested for Yik Yak threat
An SU student told the Department of Public Safety about an alarming Yik Yak post on Oct. 28, which led to the arrest of a former student who lives in Syracuse. DPS partnered with SU’s Information Technology Services to identify the person.
