Syracuse’s Maui schedule features familiar foes
The Maui Invitational tournament unveiled its schedule and bracket for the 2013 tournament, and Syracuse will battle some familiar faces.
The Orange will open its schedule with a game against St. Francis (N.Y.) in the Carrier Dome on Nov. 18 before facing Richard Pitino-led Minnesota in its first game in Hawaii on Nov. 25.
Pitino, son of Louisville head coach and former SU assistant Rick Pitino, is entering his first season as the Golden Gophers’ head coach.
The winner of Syracuse’s first round matchup with Minnesota will face the winner of Arkansas-California the next day. The losers will also play each other in the consolation bracket.
All games in Hawaii will be played in Maui’s Lahaina Civic Center.
The Orange defeated the Razorbacks in a game in Fayetteville, Ark., as part of the SEC/Big East Challenge last season. SU knocked the Golden Bears out of the NCAA Tournament with a third-round victory in San Jose, Calif. last year, too.
The other half of the bracket features matchups between Baylor and Division-II Chaminade, the host of the tournament, and Dayton and Gonzaga. The Bulldogs were a No. 1 seed in the Tournament last season, but exited in the third round.
Final games of the tournament will be played on Nov. 27. The full bracket is available here.
